At a glance
Enter your ceiling height, width, depth and handedness. This room size calculator checks each launch monitor against published maker placement specs, shows which 8/10/12 ft enclosure widths fit, and draws a top-down layout. Specs checked October 2026 from Garmin, Rapsodo, FlightScope and SkyTrak. Next: build planner, garage setup guide or golf simulator packages.

Fit is judged only against published maker specs; numbers not published are shown as "Check with manufacturer". Minimums exclude screen-to-wall clearance and the unit's own footprint. Room-size background: room size by launch monitor type and ceiling height by golfer height.
FAQ
How big of a room do you need for a golf simulator?
It depends on where the launch monitor sits. Behind-the-ball units need the maker's distance behind the ball plus ball flight: Garmin specifies the R10 6 to 8 ft behind the ball with at least 8 ft to the net (14 ft minimum), and FlightScope specifies the Mevo Gen2 8 ft from unit to tee with 8 ft of ball flight (16 ft minimum). Beside-the-ball camera units need no space behind the golfer; SkyTrak publishes minimum room depths of 15 ft for its 8 ft studio and 16 ft for its 10 ft and 12 ft studios, and calls a 17 ft deep room comfortable.
What is the minimum ceiling height for a golf simulator?
SkyTrak says a 10 ft ceiling typically offers ample clearance for most golfers and that many golfers find 9 ft enough. Taller golfers and steeper swings need more; do a slow swing test with a driver before buying.
Does handedness change the room layout?
Yes for beside-the-ball camera units: the unit sits on the side of the ball the golfer faces, so it moves when a left-handed and right-handed golfer share the room, and both need clearance on their swing side. Behind-the-ball radar units usually stay put.
Can I use this calculator for a garage golf simulator?
Yes. Enter ceiling height measured to the lowest obstruction with the garage door open and closed, plus width and depth at the hitting position. Then read the garage-specific door, opener and parking notes in our garage golf simulator setup guide.
What should I do after a monitor fits?
Open the simulator build planner (linked from the results) to price a screen, enclosure, mat and projector, or compare dated kits on the golf simulator packages hub.
