How it works
- Image width = the screen width, or the screen height × aspect ratio if that is smaller.
- Throw distance = throw ratio × image width, measured from the lens to the screen.
- Compare the result with your room depth in the room fit calculator, and keep the lens out of the golfer's swing path.
Preset throw ratios come from the retailer listings in Sources. Mount height, lens offset and keystone limits vary by model: check the manual for the exact model. See our golf simulator projector guide.
FAQ
How far should a golf simulator projector be from the screen?
Throw distance equals throw ratio times image width. A 0.69:1 projector making a 9 ft wide image sits about 6.2 ft from the screen (0.69 × 9). Projectors with a zoom range give a minimum and maximum distance.
What throw ratio do I need for a golf simulator?
Short-throw projectors (throw ratio under 1) let you mount the projector close to the screen, often above or just behind the golfer, which reduces shadows. Rain or Shine Golf lists the Optoma GT2000HDR at 0.496:1; BenQ lists the AH500ST at 0.499 and the TH671ST and AK700ST family at 0.69–0.83.
Which aspect ratio should a golf simulator screen use?
Match the projector's native aspect ratio to the screen where you can. A 16:9 projector on a 4:3-shaped screen leaves unused screen at the top and bottom unless you change the software output.
