How to choose golf simulator enclosures
- Measure first: SkyTrak lists 8.5 ft wide x 15 ft deep x 8 ft high as the minimum room for its 8 ft studio, whose enclosure is 7 ft 6 in tall.
- Decide kit or package: a kit is the enclosure and screen; packages add a launch monitor and mat.
- Leave side clearance; SkyTrak says you need at least a foot on each side for assembly and buffer space.
- Price the rest of the build in the build planner.

FAQ
Is it cheaper to build your own golf simulator?
Sometimes, but not automatically. Using Oct 2026 retailer prices, a launch monitor plus a DIY enclosure kit ranged from slightly more expensive than a comparable package to about $1,000 cheaper before adding a mat, screen upgrades and hardware. The biggest DIY savings come from reusing things you already own (a projector, PC or mat) or building the frame yourself.
What does a golf simulator package usually include?
Typically a launch monitor, an enclosure with an impact screen, and a hitting mat. Projectors, computers, frames and turf are often optional extras. For example, Shop Indoor Golf's SIG DIY Studio packages include the launch monitor, enclosure surround and impact screen but not the pipe frame, mat or projector.
What are the risks of a DIY golf simulator?
Mismatched parts (screen size vs enclosure vs projector throw), missing hardware, safety gaps such as unpadded frames or ball-flight gaps above the screen, and splitting warranty support across several sellers.
Can I upgrade a package later?
Usually yes. Enclosures and screens generally work with different launch monitors, so many people upgrade the launch monitor later and keep the bay.
