A launch monitor under $500 is the cheapest way to put real numbers on your swing, but it’s a different shopping list from the one in our under-$1,000 guide. Of the new units under $500 we found, only one is listed by its maker as working with simulator software like GSPro. Almost everything else is a practice radar: it gives you carry distance and speed at the range or into a net, but it won’t drive simulator software.
That’s fine if you know which one you’re buying. This guide sorts the best launch monitors under $500 in October 2026 into “plays simulator courses” and “practice only,” with dated prices from the manufacturer or a specialist retailer. We haven’t hands-on tested these units; everything here comes from maker pages, owner’s manuals and retailer listings, and each price links to its source.
Quick picks: which one fits you
- You want to play simulator courses at home: Garmin Approach R10, right at the $500 line.
- You want measured spin and swing video: a certified refurbished Rapsodo MLM2PRO, if you’ll pay for Premium.
- You want practice numbers on a built-in screen, no phone: Swing Caddie SC300i.
- Under $300, speed and carry only: Swing Caddie SC200 Plus or Shot Scope LM1.
- You already own an iPhone and want video for about $200: Rapsodo MLM1.
Not sure yet? The launch monitor finder has an “Up to $500” budget, and the comparison database sorts every model we track by price and room depth.
Under $500 vs under $1,000: what you give up
The jump from $500 to $1,000 buys two things this price band mostly lacks: beside-the-ball camera units and new units with measured spin. The Square Golf HE ($699 at Square Golf) sits beside the ball, so it needs no space behind you. The new Rapsodo MLM2PRO is $549.99 on sale at Rapsodo (Oct 16, 2026). Neither fits under $500 new.
So under $500 you are choosing between:
- One simulator-ready radar (the Garmin R10) that sits behind you and needs a deep room.
- A refurbished hybrid (the MLM2PRO) with the same depth problem plus a subscription.
- Practice radars (Swing Caddie, Shot Scope LM1, Rapsodo MLM1) that are cheap, portable and simple, but don’t play courses.
If your room is short, or you want a dedicated indoor sim, read the under-$1,000 guide or the small-room guide before buying anything here.
Does it play simulator software?
| Unit | Price (Oct 12, 2026) | Simulator software | Subscription |
|---|---|---|---|
| Garmin Approach R10 | $499.99 (Garmin) | GSPro, E6, Awesome Golf (per Garmin) | Optional: Garmin Golf $99.99/yr for course play in Garmin’s app |
| Rapsodo MLM2PRO (refurbished) | $399.99 (Rapsodo) | GSPro, E6, Awesome Golf (per Rapsodo) | Premium $199.99/yr or $599.99 lifetime |
| Swing Caddie SC300i | $399.99 (Voice Caddie) | None (per Voice Caddie) | None listed |
| Swing Caddie SC200 Plus | $279.99 (Voice Caddie) | None listed | None listed |
| Rapsodo MLM1 | $199.99 (Rapsodo) | None listed | Optional Premium $99.99/yr |
| Shot Scope LM1 | $199.99 (Rain or Shine Golf) | None (per Rain or Shine Golf) | None |
Simulator software is a separate purchase. GSPro lists Version 3 at $250 per year and needs a Windows 10 or 11 PC (GSPro).
Where does the unit sit, and how deep is your room?
Shaded bar = range of distance behind the ball the maker specifies; dark circle = unit, open circle = ball. Drawn by YardageBay from the owner's manual and product pages cited on this page; not to exact scale.
Every unit in this guide is a radar (or radar plus camera) that sits behind the ball. Here is what the makers and retailers publish:
| Unit | Behind the ball | Ball to net |
|---|---|---|
| Garmin R10 | 6–8 ft (owner’s manual) | at least 8 ft |
| Rapsodo MLM2PRO | 6.5–8.5 ft (Rapsodo FAQ) | 8 ft |
| Rapsodo MLM1 | 6–8 ft (Rapsodo FAQ) | at least 8 ft |
| Swing Caddie SC300i / SC200 Plus | 5 ft (Voice Caddie specs) | Not listed |
| Shot Scope LM1 | 4–5 ft (Rain or Shine Golf) | Not listed |
For the R10 and MLM2PRO, that adds up to roughly 14–16.5 ft before you add swing room and space behind the screen. Our room size by launch monitor type guide and room fit calculator do the full math.

About $499.99 as of Oct 2026 at Garmin.
The R10 is the only new unit in this guide that its maker lists as compatible with GSPro, E6 and Awesome Golf. That makes it the one unit here that can grow into a real home simulator later. It’s small (Garmin lists 3.5 x 2.8 x 1 in and about 5.2 oz without the tripod), rated for up to 10 hours of battery and IPX7 water-rated, so it doubles as a range unit.

The catch is the plan. MLM2PRO Premium is $199.99 per year or $599.99 lifetime as of Oct 12, 2026 (Rapsodo marks some plan prices as limited-time offers), and it gates key features. The refurbished listing says a 21-day Premium trial is included, while another part of the same page says 45 days, so confirm at checkout. Just over $500: when to stretch
A few units sit just above the line as of October 12, 2026:
- Rapsodo MLM2PRO, new: $549.99 on sale ($699.99 compare-at) at Rapsodo, as of Oct 16, 2026.
- Swing Caddie SC4 PRO: $599.99 at Rain or Shine Golf and Voice Caddie, with 13 data points and 4–6 ft behind the ball, per Rain or Shine Golf.
- Square Golf HE: $699 at Square Golf, the cheapest beside-the-ball camera we track.
Stretch if your room is under about 15 ft deep (a beside-the-ball camera solves that) or if you want a new unit with a full warranty. Our best launch monitors under $1,000 guide covers all three.
How we chose
We looked at launch monitors sold in the US for $500 or less on the maker’s site or a specialist retailer as of October 12, 2026. We kept units with a published price and enough placement and software detail to plan a room. We list a refurbished unit only when the manufacturer sells it directly. We didn’t rank on accuracy because we haven’t measured it ourselves; where a maker publishes an accuracy figure, we say whose claim it is. Budget launch monitors go on sale often, especially from November through February, so check the linked prices before you buy.
Bottom line
If you want to play simulator golf for under $500, the Garmin R10 is the pick, as long as your room is deep enough. For spin and video, a refurbished MLM2PRO gets under the line if you budget for Premium. If you only want practice numbers, the Shot Scope LM1 and Swing Caddie units do it without a phone bill or simulator setup.
